The connection between the entries of a transformation matrix A and the resulting linear transformation Ax can sometimes be a bit unintuitive. Here,
A is a D-by-D matrix (a linear transformation operator),
x is a D-by-N matrix (a matrix of samples),
D is the number of variable space dimensions, andÂ
N is the number of samples.
Here, I provide a small sandbox for D=2 and N=100 that may help building some intuition.
